Stained Glass "Pansy Dreams"

Ever since I clicked open to the new annual catalog and witnessed the visual of the Pansy Petals Suite, I fell in love at first sight.  I couldn't wait to get my hands on it an play with the layers of fun.  That's where this dream began...

I call this piece, "Pansy Dreams".  It's part of the Technique Squad Blog Hop.  Our emphasis for this month is "Stained Glass".  I imagined how the butterfly (from the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle) would feel flying to and fro among all of these colorful pansies.  The Lazy Gardener tells us that butterflies are attracted to the pansy-so I layered them behind and in front of the butterfly.

Here's how this piece is created.  I used vellum cardstock (101856) and stamped the butterfly in the new in color, Evening Evergreen.  I then used the new in color markers set and filled in the parts of the butterfly by coloring each part.  After the ink set, I blotted it to make sure it would not smear.

The next layer is the pansies.  I used the dies to cut out the various pansies.  The leaves are cut from the new designer series paper as well.  I took the base card (in polished pink), cut at 8.5 X 5.25 and scored it at 4.25.  I then used my circle dies and cut out the circle in the butterfly bijou dsp layer (cut an 1/8 of an inch smaller so the color of the card base would still pop) and would frame the butterfly.  This paper has sold out but any DSP could be subbed in for the layer.  I layered the vellum behind the colorful dsp.  Then I layered the pansies in front of the butterfly and behind it before mounting it on the card.

As a final touch, I stamped the sentiment "because you're you" near the bottom of the card and added the new in color gems to the centers of the pansies and the head of the butterfly.  I say, shimmer, shine and fly to your sweet dreams butterfly!

I take inspiration from this message as I am exploring new territory as a demo for Stampin' Up.  I hope my exploration as a demo nourishes my soul as the pansies would for this dreamy butterfly.  Happy stamping, ink and papers, friends!  Drop a comment below and let us know what you think of the new Pansy Petals bundle and new in-colors.
